Saba Altaf

Saba Altaf is a 3rd-year PhD candidate in Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at the School of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences, Faculty of Science, UNSW Sydney. She received her Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biochemistry in 2014 and a Master’s degree in Molecular Biology with High Distinction from the University of the Punjab in 2016, where she was recognised with multiple academic awards. After completing her master’s and before starting her PhD, she worked as a biology lecturer at a private college and as a biochemistry lecturer at the University of Management and Technology, Lahore, Pakistan. Her current research focuses on RNA biology and Neuroscience, with a particular interest in the role of long non-coding RNAs in brain function. Saba is passionate about science communication and public engagement. She was selected as a UNSW STEMM Champion for 2025 and actively shares her research journey with the wider community through initiatives such as Pint of Science Australia.
